The Gauteng Education Departmant has urged all parents in the province to find alternative transport for their children in view of the planned taxi strike.

MEC Panyaza Lesufi says with examinations in progress, learners must not be disadvantaged by the protest.

Lesufi says all Chief Invigilators will give all Grade 12 learners who might arrive late the opportunity to write their final exams.

Departmental spokesperson Steve Mabona says: “The department will invoke necessary prescripts to all those learners who might not make it to the exam.”

He adds: “The chief invigilators would also use their discretion to accommodate learners to write at the alternative centres. The department has communicated to the principals to give the inner grade children who might not make it to school on Wednesday another opportunity any assessment that might have been missed.”
