Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has visited Fred Norman Secondary School in Ennerdale south of Johannesburg. This comes after a 14-year-old learner was shot and killed on Tuesday, allegedly by his father who mistook him for a criminal.

In another incident, a grade 12 learner at the school was abducted by a gang and raped while on her way home from school.

Lesufi has described the two incidents as shocking and disturbing, ” So I had to go and address learners and assure them of our support and ensure that all our psycho-socio support are available to give support to learners and parents.”

The police’s Mpande Khoza says the father, who had just dropped off his son to attend evening class, fell asleep while waiting in the car.

“When the boy comes back he knocks on the passenger window and the father got scared and pulled out a firearm. He thought he was being robbed. He then fired one bullet which then hit the son on the body.”

Police are still investigating.
