Painful for Chiefs to be fighting for just a top eight finish- Hadebe

Kaizer Chiefs and Zimbabwean international centre-back Teenage Hadebe says it’s painful for a big team like Amakhosi to be fighting for a top eight position.

Chiefs play their second last Absa Premiership game of the season against the relegation threatened Free State Stars on Saturday at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Chiefs need at least a draw from their last two matches to secure a top eight finish, they are currently placed seventh on the log. Hadebe says things are not supposed to be like this.

Chiefs haven’t won a league game since the ninth of March, they’ve gone five matches without a win in the league. It’s not a good stat for a team that wants to build some confidence ahead of the Nedbank Cup final in two weeks time.

During their 1-0 loss in Polokwane to Bloemfontein Celtic last week, Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp appeared to be frustrated during his post-match comments especially by his players’ lack of commitment in league games. But Hadebe denied that there’s lack of commitment from their side.

Meanwhile, with Chiefs just having released crowd favourite Pule Ekstein, Kabelo Mahlasela was asked if he’s ready to replace him and own the play making role. – Report by Velile Mnyandu
