Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Paarl Rocks recorded their fourth win in nine matches beating the Jozi Stars by six wickets in the Inaugural Mzansi Super League match in Johannesburg.

After restricting the home side to 170, the Rocks successfully chased and reached the target with three balls to spare to secure victory.

The Paarl Rocks won the toss and elected to bowl. The decision paid dividends early on with Kerwin Mungroo bowling out opener, Reeza Hendricks, for just five runs.

Chris Gayle didn’t waste time living up to his reputation as one of the gifted strikers of the ball scoring a big six.

But Mungroo had other ideas dismissing Gayle for nine to leave the Jozi Stars on 18 for two with Cameron Delport taking the catch.

The third wicket partnership between Dane Vilas and Rassie Van Der Dussen rebuild the Stars’ innings adding 73 runs before the Rocks struck again.

Tabraiz Shamzi got the Rocks the breakthrough bowling out Vilas for 23 to leave the home side on 91 for three.

The Rocks got two wickets in quick succession with Mungroo bowling out Pite Van Biljon while Dane Patterson dismissed Daniel Christiaan with the Stars on 119.

The Stars reached a total of 170 in their 20 overs with Van Der Dussen top-scoring with an unbeaten 83.

In reply, the Rocks didn’t have the best of starts.

Dwayne Olivier got two wickets with successive balls dismissing Delport for 15 and Aiden Markram for three.

Captain Faf Du Plesis and Thompson’s 110-run partnership took the Rocks to 139 before the home side struck again.

Christiaan dismissed Du Plesis for 61 but the damage had already been done. Thompson scored a boundary to seal the win for the Rocks with three balls to spare.

Victory moved the Rocks from fifth to fourth on the standings.
