More than 80 people have been taken in for questioning following the murder of nine illegal miners in Matholeville west of Johannesburg.  The nine Lesotho nationals were stoned to death and their bodies were found lying in the streets.

In a statement Gauteng police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza says 87 people were taken in for question on Friday night to establish if they are not wanted for any crimes.

She says the manhunt will continue until all the suspects linked to the murders are located and arrested.

The Gauteng provincial police commissioner Elias Mawela has called for calm and has appealed to the community of Matholeville to cooperate with the police as they intensify random searches in the area.
