Police Minister, Bheki Cele, says even though there has been a decrease in cash-in-transit robberies across the country, security services are not yet out of the woods.

This follows a spate of cash-in-transit robberies in South Africa this year prompting police to work towards arresting high profile targets.

Addressing the media in Pretoria, he announced that over 230 suspects have been arrested from April to date.

From April 1, 2018 to November 4, 2018 – 104 cash in transit robberies were recorded across nine provinces.

Cele says: “To date, the number of arrests is 237. Vehicles recovered – 32, firearms recovered – 78, ammunition recovered – 1402. A substantial amount of money has also been recovered. Through our crime and intelligence multi-disciplinary driven operations over the past weeks. We have arrested suspects while plotting to commit cash in transit robberies.’

We arrest them in their bases, even before they go out to actualise their plans,” says Cele.
