Otter Trail is ‘every hiker’s dream’

Otto Trail
Reading Time: < 1 minute

If the 42 kilometre Otter Tail in the Tsitsikamma area of the Garden Route is on your bucket list, then you need to book a year in advance. It is half a century old this year and is one of the most popular hiking trails in the world.

A route that is every hikers dream, every day of the five day hike is different. Daily surprises with breath-taking views, white sandy beaches and expanses of fynbos.

As you work your way through the indigenous forest, be on the lookout for Outeniqua yellow woods, wild sage trees and if you are lucky, you may even see some Bushbuck.

“It’s my first time in South Africa and it was beautiful, we walked for about an hour each way and found the waterfall at the end which was very beautiful,” says a tourist.

No matter how fit you are, authorities insist that hikers sleep overnight in the huts along the trail.
