“Opposition walkout in Legislature over Zuma’s presence a political statement”

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ANC Chief Whip in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature, Nontembeko Boys, says the walkout by opposition parties over former president Jacob Zuma’s presence in the chamber on Tuesday, was just a political statement.

Opposition parties, other than the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), say they walked out because there was no proper consultation about Zuma’s invitation and because he was sitting in the front.

However, the IFP remained behind.

Boys says Zuma sat in the public gallery wing reserved for eminent persons and that he was not going to address the house.  She says no rule was broken.
