One shot, three wounded in West Rand church

Police have launched an investigation following clashes between members of two rival factions of the International Pentecost Holiness church in Zuurbekom on Gauteng’s West Rand.

Authorities say one person was shot and wounded and two others injured.

More than 10 vehicles have been damaged after a members of one faction of the church started attacking the other group and pelting their vehicles with stones.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they are investigating a case of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst says the injured have been transported to hospital.

“Reports from the scene indicate that an adult male has sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Two other adult males were injured while trying to escape when their cars were stoned.  The SAPS airwing helicopter as well as a specialised police unit are on scene.”
