Sports Minister, Thulas Nxesi has urged other national sports bodies to follow Cricket South Africa’s example and builds sport centres around the country.

In an exclusive interview with the SABC during the cricket Test match between South Africa and Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth, Nxesi says his department has set aside R300-million to assist local municipalities in building multi-purpose centres in under privileged areas.

He says sports bodies are also crucial stakeholders in this endeavour.

“And this is a major programme we are launching next year. And we are picking up what we call poor district municipalities. But it is going to depend on the cooperation of the municipalities. If we approach them and they cooperate, well that’s good, if they don’t the ball is in their court, we will pass them and go to other municipalities who are ready to cooperate and contribute,” says Nxesi.
