Ntseki faces first real test in his first official matches against Ghana and Sudan

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The first two official matches of Molefi Ntseki as a Bafana Bafana coach will provide him with a true test, not only in terms of how difficult the opponents are going to, be but also the schedule.

This was evident when Ntseki announced his 25-man to play Ghana and Sudan in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) on the 14th and 17th of November, respectively.

The team will assemble on the 10th and depart for Accra the following day where they play the first Group D game against the Black Stars.

Announcing his team at the SABC headquarters in Auckland Park, Johannesburg on Tuesday, Ntseki says they’ve got a plan in place for these two qualifiers.

The game against Ghana comes hot on the heels of the election of the new Ghana Football Association (GFA) executive led by Kurt Okraku, who was elected this past weekend.

This follows two spells of Normalization Committees that were appointed by FIFA following the banning of former President and Caf Vice-President Kwesi Nyatankyi on bribery and corruption charges.

Ntseki says off- the-field issues will have no bearing on this game.

Ntseki has only made few changes to the team which beat Mali 2-1 in an international friendly in October. He’s kept the majority of the squad and only returned Aubrey Modiba, Thamsanqa Mkhize and Sifiso Hlanti to cover for the injured Keagan Dolly.

Ntseki has more on why he’s kept the bulk of the squad from the Mali game.

Bafana will play their second qualifier against Sudan at Orlando Stadium on the 17th at 15:00. This means that they will only have one training session after returning from Ghana on Friday.

This makes it imperative that SAFA should assist Ntseki and his technical team by having a match scout or analyst when Sudan plays Sao Tome e Principe.
