Close to 270 000 applicants have applied for study loans from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for the 2018 academic year.
Applications closed on Thursday. NSFAS anticipates that 70% of the applications processed will be successful.
Only first time applicants and students, who did not receive NSFAS funding last year, were encouraged to apply.
NSFAS acting COO, Victor Rambau says, “Last night when we closed, we received two hundred and sixty seven thousand applications. As NSFAS, in comparison to where we were last year this time, I think our campaign went very well. The response from matriculants was great and of course those who are the first applicants to NSFAS. Things went very well and we anticipating that at least on the ones that we’ve received 60, 70% should go through.”
