The National Student Financial Aid Scheme says preparations for the 2019 applications are going well, despite the suspension of its Executive Officer Steven Zwane.

Zwane was suspended with immediate effect on Monday over allegations of maladministration, pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

Next year’s applications for funding have been delayed by a month after Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor ordered that NSFAS clear the 2017/18 applications and funding backlogs first, before taking new applications.

NSFAS Spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo says they’re conducting test on the applications system on Tuesday to test its readiness

“After today’s testing we will be in a very much better position to tell you what has been the experience of the students, and how the application is going to roll out. We are getting ready, the minister said applications must open on the 1st of September. The administrator is given 10 days to give the minister the report, and he is currently completing that report. And he will brief the minister, upon which the communication to the nation will be made.”
