Reading Time: < 1 minute

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says there is nothing sinister about the dinner that he and six other ANC presidential hopefuls had with President Jacob Zuma.

In an unprecedented move Zuma invited the seven candidates to Pretoria.

Speaking during a final send-off rally in Tshwane Ramaphosa told hundreds of supporters that the President encouraged them to ensure that the elective congress in December ran smoothly.

The conference which is to be held in a few weeks’ time in Johannesburg is expected to be a two horse race between Ramaphosa and MP Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

Ramaphosa says Zuma had some advice for them.

“He said, as an outgoing president of the ANC he would want the conference to be well run, it must be an orderly conference. It must be a conference which is underpinned by dignity, it must be a conference that is going to promote unity of the ANC because after this conference. I want to be proud member of the ANC; I want to be a member of the ANC knowing my organization is united.”
