Northern Cape prediction: ANC will hold it

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) says early indications point to a victory in the 2019 elections for the ANC in the Northern Cape, but with a reduced lead for the ruling party.

At the moment 136 voting districts in the province have sent their results through to the IEC results centre in Pretoria. Eighty percent of the results are still outstanding, but the CSIR says they are confident enough to make the prediction at this stage.

There are 626 000 registered voters in the Northern Cape. At this stage, with 17 400 votes counted,  turnout is at 64%. In 2014, 71% of the registered voters cast their ballot.

Nationally, more than 1100 voting districts have sent their final results to the IEC in Pretoria.
