Reading Time: < 1 minute

The pupils at Kopela village in the North West say the torching of schools to highlight community grievances is wrong.

The pupils have sharply rebuked this practice saying damaging infrastructure retards development and has knock-on consequences for learning and teaching.

Madibogopan learner, Bakang Matebele says the people who burn schools are their parents.

“People who burn the schools and clinics were very wrong because we are behind with everything and they burn things that are going to benefit us,” says Masego Mokoroane from Madibogopan School.

Recently  Mpumalanga is one of the most affected provinces, as four schools were torched in the space of a week. School infrastructure was torched and destroyed by community members during service delivery protests.
