The South Africa National Taxi Council (Santaco) has denied reports that roads will be blocked or closed off during their strike on Gauteng’s East Rand on Tuesday morning.
Law enforcement personnel will be out in full force and commuters have been advised of road closures and delays.
Members of the Ekurhuleni Taxi Industry are set to march from Kempton Park to the Ekurhuleni Metro Council in Germiston.
Santaco Ekurhuleni general-secretary, Buti Mahlangu has also refuted reports that Santaco members have been blockading roads since the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He says the march will commence at 10am.
“We are embarking on a strike because we can’t get hold of the mayor to come and discuss issues that affect the taxi operators. Secondly, the BRT issues that emanating in Ekurhuleni. It was [a] fabrication we never went out at 2am.”
“We never closed any roads we never closed any train [station] we just stopped our taxis from operating. We will be starting from Germiston taxi rank from 10am towards the city centre where we’ll be delivering our memorandum at the council chambers,” adds Mahlangu.
