Nigerians await presidential poll results

Reading Time: < 1 minute

As Nigerians await the announcement of results from Saturday’s presidential election, civil society groups have warned that disorganisation and violence may have undermined the polls.

Vote counting is underway as electoral officials collate the results from 120 000 polling stations across 36 states.

While country’s electoral commission says it is generally satisfied with how the election was conducted, delays in the opening of voting stations, reports of equipment failure and the late delivery of ballots papers have marred the polls.

Civil society groups monitoring the vote have reported 16 deaths linked to election violence.
