Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Stormers picked up a good 34-22 win against the Highlanders at Newlands Rugby Stadium on Saturday, to keep their hopes of reaching the Super Rugby knockout stages alive.

The Stormers scored 4 tries to the 3 of their opponents, with Herschel Jantjies, Siya Kolisi, Cobus Wiese and Jean Luc Du Plessis all crossing the line for the home team. Josh Stander added 3 conversions and a penalty, while Du Plessis also kicked a penalty and conversion.

Coach Robbie Fleck says it was one of their best performances of the season, especially score-wise.

While he was once again happy with their defense, Fleck says it was also pleasing to see the team mix it up on attack.

Fleck says he is especially pleased with the contribution from the younger players in the squad and hopes it continues.

Highlanders coach Aaron Mauger says after a slow start, he was pleased with his team’s effort as they hit back with tries from Sio Tomkinson, Waisake Naholo and Siate Tokolahi in the second half.

But Mauger credits the Stormers for their, and admits that they were the better team on the day. – Report by Rob Delport
