Founding Director of NGO, Little Big Steps, Sydney Junior Madibo says young people in schools are taught so much about European history and not so much about historic events in our country.
Madibo says the struggle the June 16 youth faced is partially different but yet similar to today’s youth, “The struggle then was for education and the struggle now is still for education. It’s also for young people to be developed, to be given the resource needed for them to move ahead in society.”
The professional Public Speaker says the campaigns they are initiating help the youth to be active and to be involved in their communities, “If they can do that, then every day is a youth day.”
June 16 is a day set aside to commemorate the courageous youth in Soweto, who in 1976 under apartheid government, protested against black school children being taught in Afrikaans and English.
