Reading Time: < 1 minute

The case of six men accused of shooting and killing five police officers and an off duty soldier in Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape, returns to the local magistrate’s court on Thursday.

The suspects were arrested following an armed robbery and shooting at the Ngcobo police station in February this year.

The six suspects face charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

They were arrested during a police raid on the Mancoba Seven Angels Church after a tip-off. During their previous court appearances, it emerged they allegedly ambushed and killed two police officers next to Nyanga high school and robbed them of their vehicle, firearms, including an R5 and a pistol.

They later went to the Ngcobo police station, where they robbed 10 firearms, more than 100 rounds of ammunition, and bullet proof vests. Three police officers died during the police station robbery. Some of the items were recovered from the suspects.
