NFP leader reassures supporters, vows to deal with internal battles

The National Freedom Party (NFP) says the loss of some of its senior leaders will not affect the party’s performance in the May 8 general elections. The party holds its final Rally at eMabhanoyini in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The party’s secretary-general Nhlanhla Khubisa and head of communications Sabelo Sigudu have both defected to the ANC. But NFP spokesperson Simo Mkhwanazi says the party remains positive.

“If we lose one we gain hundreds. So we cannot actually complain as much as we want to have that additional 101 person. But it will have no impact guaranteed.”

The party did not participate in the 2016 municipal elections due to the non-payment of registration fees to the IEC.

The NFP, which was a break-away from the IFP, showed great potential when it was formed in 2006. The party’s problems began when its founder and leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi fell ill in 2014.

Internal battles saw the party losing support and even failing to contest the 2016 elections. On the eve of this election the party is also now facing an exodus of prominent leaders who led different factions of the NFP.

Sunday is the final push for vote and  KaMagwaza-Msibi reassured supporters that the current challenges within the party will soon be a thing of the past.

NFP party leader in the iNkosi Langalibalele region – Bhekithemba Dlamini – says people must be allowed to exercise their right to vote.
