Nehawu members at Helen Joseph Hospital on strike

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The provision of health care services at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg has been threatened due to a strike.

Workers belonging to the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) have blocked the main entrance into the hospital.

They are not allowing vehicles to exit the hospital premises. Security personnel are rerouting traffic to the emergency exit. However some vehicles have been barred from exiting the premises from both gates.

They are demanding among others a 12% salary increase for low level employees and performance bonuses.

The protest comes at a time when the hospital top management is engaging patients on the level of service they receive from the facility.
