South African swimmer, Natalie du Toit, has made the shortlist for the Laureus Sporting Moment 2000 – 2020. This campaign shortlists 20 sporting stories from the last 20 years that have made a mark on the world.
The former Olympic swimmer from Cape Town became the third amputee ever to qualify for the Olympics. In 2002, as a 17-year old, du Toit was involved in a traffic crash that led to the amputation of her leg at the knee.
Three months later, she returned to swimming and a year later, she made history.
