The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers, (NAAMSA), says newer model cars with keyless entry are much harder to steal than older cars.
This in response to a UK report which claims that newer model cars, such as the Audi TT RS could be stolen in ten seconds.
The report says thieves are exploiting weaknesses in keyless entry systems.
But NAAMSA says there have been no such cases locally.
“Vehicles that are most likely to be stolen is normally your older vehicles when you talk about theft its your older vehicle that will be stolen but your new vehicles that are your keyless entry vehicles have a higher level of security and it should not be easier for criminals to steal them because we share information with the insurance industry with the police and everyone that’s involved in the sector and we haven’t had any cases,” says NAAMSA chairperson, Motsamai Mollo.
