MEC for Health in the North West, Dr Magome Masike says he is surprised by startling revelations of corruption and fraud at his department.
Masike was addressing Scopa where he appeared until the earlier on Wednesday.
Scopa has recommended for immediate suspension for HoD Dr Thabo Lekalakala over his role in the pre-payment of R30 million to a Gupta-linked company.
Dr Lekalakala is also being investigated by the Hawks for corruption and fraud after it raided the offices of the department on Wednesday morning.
Documents and files have also been confiscated in the raid.
Masike says, “We welcome any investigations in the department. We think it would make us good. I am just surprised about the insight that you have of the department; I am really surprised, but we really welcome any investigations.”
