Founder and Director of Tshivenda Music Awards, Chief Livhuwani Matsila, says the awards serve to preserve the Venda heritage.

Speaking in an interview on Morning Live, Matsila says the awards are aimed at celebrating and rewarding artists who pride themselves in singing in their indigenous language.

The awards also help artists in rural areas in showcasing their music.

Some of the artists that have participated in the awards have gone on to win national awards including the South African Music Awards and Metro FM Awards.

Dignitaries including Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha are expected to attend the award ceremony due to take place on August 29.
