Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Department of Water and Sanitation has commenced with the issuing of notices to at least 30 defaulting municipalities, notifying them of its decision to terminate bulk water supply.

The municipalities owing money have until the 8th of December to settle their bills, amounting to over R10-billion.

“This is what the department of Water and Sanitation need to do to continue operating as an on-going organisation,” says Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau.

Ratau says that this debt has a history, it is debt accumulated over a period of time and there are a number of processes that they have engaged with the municipalities to try and recover this debt.
