Mughonghoma village community threatens to boycott elections

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A group of community members at Mughonghoma village in Dzumeri outside Giyani in Limpopo say they will not be participating in Wednesday’s general election despite a call by community leaders to end the election boycott.

Residents previously threatened to boycott the election, demanding that a 37-kilometre stretch of road that runs across 10 villages be tarred.

On Tuesday, community leaders ended the election boycott, citing a commitment from the Road Agency in Limpopo to prioritise the road.

Some residents say the agreement has not been communicated with them.

A resident says: “No we are not going to vote without the tar road. There is no one who came to tell us we can go vote.”

“The new committee elected yesterday did not come back to brief us as to what happened in the meeting but we are waiting for them.”
