Mugabe summoned over alleged diamond trade corruption

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A Zimbabwean parliamentary committee has summoned former president Robert Mugabe to give evidence on May the 9th over alleged corruption in the diamond trade.

The lawmakers plan to question Mugabe over his 2016 claim that the country had lost the equivalent of R180-billion due to corruption and foreign exploitation in the diamond sector.

It’s unclear whether Mugabe, who is frail, will agree to appear before the committee or make moves to avoid a potential grilling.

The Parliamentary committee has already summoned former ministers, ex-police chiefs and heads of several government departments.
