Reading Time: < 1 minute

Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa says government will distance itself from Maskandi artists who incite violence in their music. Mthethwa was addressing stakeholders and musicians at the Maskandi Imbizo in Durban.

The event which is the first of its kind in this music genre is aimed at assisting Maskandi artists to excel and keep the music alive. The music is faced with different challenges pertaining to fighting among the artists and lack of recognition.

Mthethwa has called on artists to respect one another and keep a good image. “Maskandi has always been a key factor in social cohesion in this country. But when we see them fight against each other and using vulgar among themselves…no one will want to invest in them. They must unite and complete a fairway.”
