Arts and Culture minister, Nathi Mthethwa has officially launched the celebrations for Africa Month.at the National Heritage Monument in Tshwane on Wednesday.
“When we celebrate Africa, we are not celebrating race or colour, we are celebrating humanity. We are celebrating Africa because this continent is the cradle of human kind,” says Mthethwa.
Mthethwa invites Africans to be part of the celebrations and urged Africans to take time to know each other and learn each other’s cultures.
He says Africa Month will help the government promote the African agenda and African values and ideas.
This year’s celebrations will be in line with what government has termed, “The Year of OR Tambo, building Africa and a better world.”
Africa Month celebrations will be taking place across the country and will include dialogues on discoloration, cultural festivities, and the Africa Day concert that will take place on the 25 of this month.
South Africans have also been urged to visit the National Heritage Monument in Tshwane where they will be able to see statues of heroes like Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko, King Shaka, King Moshoeshoe and many more.
The statues come with an explanation of which the people are what their contribution to society is.
