Mpumalanga serial rapist to be sentenced on Friday

The High Court in Mpumalanga is to sentence a 42-year-old serial rapist Henry Hlahla. He was found guilty of more than 80 cases related to rape.

Hlahla threatened victims with a knife or a firearm when committing the crimes between 2010 and 2017 in Nkomazi. He targeted female single parents, broke into their houses and raped them in front of their families.

Henry Hlahla was arrested after stealing a cellphone from one of his victims and he was then linked to other crimes through DNA.

Initially he was facing more than 100 charges. However, he was found guilty on at least more than 86 of the charges, ranging from rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft attempted murder, malicious damage to property, discharge of firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
