The City of Johannesburg has warned motorists of road closures in the Joburg CBD from Tuesday until 6am on Wednesday as New Year’s Eve celebrations commence.

Several roads in Joburg CBD will be closed-off in preparation for the #JoburgNYE19 countdown on Tues, 31 Dec 2019-Wed 01 Jan 2020.

JMPD officers will be monitoring the area throughout the celebrations.
Director for Events Management, Bongi Mokaba says, “We need motorists and travellers to be safe. Streets are going to be closed in and around Newtown. Roads that are going to be closed are Rahima Moosa, Henry Nxumalo, Gwigwi Mrwebi and then from nine in the evening, the M1 North and the M1 South – different lanes are going to be shut down by the hour and that will be between – nine pm and 23:00. From 23:00, the entire motorway is going to be shut down for two hours for the fireworks display.”
