The Gauteng provincial government has appealed to road users to exercise caution on the roads this long weekend to avoid unnecessary crashes and fatalities.

Authorities will be on high alert this weekend to deal with any road traffic violations. These include drunk driving, reckless and negligent driving, speeding, freight overloading and unroadworthy vehicles.

“As part of the integrated law enforcement plan, our officers will be on high alert to make sure drivers obey the rules of the road. However, it is important that the attitude of our people change, because some of the deaths and fatalities on our roads are as a result of people not complying with the rules of the roads,” says Spokesperson for the Gauteng Community Safety Department is Ofentse Morwane.
