Traffic officials all over the country have urged motorists to be cautious and adhere to the rules of the road as heavy traffic volumes are continuing as holiday makers travel to various destinations for the Christmas holidays.

On Friday, over 2 000 vehicles per hour passed through the Pumulani Plaza on the N1 road between Polokwane and Pretoria, while in KwaZulu Natal over a 1000 vehicles passed through the province’s tolls on their way to the coast.

Gauteng Traffic spokesperson, Nomphithi Mtshali says they are still seeing drivers not obeying the rules of the road.

“Despite all the warnings that we have given out as Gauteng traffic police, unfortunately we are still people who are still driving whilst drunk, we are still seeing people who are speeding on our roads but fortunately our law enforcement officers are everywhere in Gauteng,” says Mtshali.
