The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) has assured motorists that the new AARTO Amendment Bill will not involve e-Tolls.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) had warned that the demerit system could see those defaulting on the e-tolls lose their driver’s licenses.

RTIA is currently holding public hearings around the country on the Bill which is one step closer to being signed into law. The RTIA’s e-tolls Mondi Mkhaliphi says this is misinformation as e-Tolls have nothing to do with the Aarto bill.

“No that information is completely incorrect there is no link between the demerit system and the payment of e-tolls the critical thing that is coming up now and again that we need to clarify is that when you drive through a gentry that does not mean you will incur demerit points so that information is completely incorrect,” says Mkhaliphi.
