Motlanthe slams violent service delivery protests

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has urged communities not to resort to violence when demanding better basic services.

He is on an African National Congress campaign trail in Taung in the North West.

Residents have told him that they do not have services such as water, housing and roads. They have also complained about unemployment among the youth.

Recently, residents of Bloemhof went on the rampage, destroying property. Motlanthe says people must not destroy their own property.

Meanwhile, Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille and Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko are leading campaigns in the Indian communities of Phoenix, Chatsworth and Wentworth in Durban.

The National Freedom Party leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi will take the party’s election campaign to the Uthukela District Ekuvukeni where she will address a rally.

Congress of the People leader Mosiua Lekota is to meet with King Goodwill Zwelithini in KwaNongoma, while Inkatha Freedom Party deputy president Mzamo Buthelezi will lead a campaign to uMlazi in the midlands.
