Motlanthe pays tribute to Winnie

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President Kgalema Motlanthe has paid tribute to the late struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela,  describing her as a woman with compassion and a person who felt the pain of others.

Several African National Congress (ANC) leaders are attending church services across the country on Sunday in honour of Mama Winnie.

Motlanthe was speaking at the main service at the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin in Johannesburg.

“She gained the ability to feel very deeply the pain visited on others. She understood that those of us who are privileged are always expected to take the hand of the underprivileged and help them along and that is why she will always be remembered by all sections and structures of South African society. Winnie needs to be fully appreciated every minute, every day. Very few people would have survived what she was subjected to.”
