The Proteas have recorded their first win at the 2019 Cricket World Cup with a clinical win over Afghanistan. Chasing a very moderate 127 run (D/L) target , the Proteas got the runs in the 27th over, only for the loss of Quinton De Kock .

Earlier Proteas’ Captain Faf Du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first. His bowlers came to the party with veteran spinner Imran Tahir taking four wickets, followed by Chris Morris with three.

This win puts the Proteas on four points, after they gained a point in the washed out West Indies game.

In an earlier game, defending champions Australia went to the top of the table by beating a battling Sri Lankan team. Captain Aaron Finch scored a massive 153 runs, leaving the Sri Lankans requiring a mammoth 335 winning target. The sub-continent team were bowled out for 247 runs.
