Mopani District denies awarding tenders unlawfully

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Mopani District Municipality in Giyani, Limpopo has denied the Democratic Alliance (DA) allegations that it awards tenders irregularly.

This after the DA wrote to the Public Protector and the Hawks regarding allegations of corruption in the municipality.

DA Caucas Leader of the municipality Marie Helm says that a private company, which has been de-registered by the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission has been awarded two water projects to the tune of R46 million.

Helm also says the municipality has awarded tenders to several companies without following the right procedures.

However, Municipal Spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says in instances where Section 32 is applied, where tenders are awarded without being advertised, strict procedures are followed.

“We want to dismiss as baseless the lies that DA is telling about the Mopani District Municipality, particularly when it comes to issues relating to the award of tenders irregularly or otherwise. The company that is being implicated by the DA is correctly registered in the CIPC database…”
