Welkom in the Free State is leading the country in the digital migration arena.

The majority of people in the area have already registered for government subsidised decoders since the introduction of digital migration.

Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane embarked on a door to door drive to educate the indigent about the importance of switching over from analogue to digital, and the countdown to the switch has begun.

All stakeholders have been on the ground in the Free State to make sure that they meet their 31 December deadline.

Government has distributed High definition television sets to some locals. Mokonyane says millions of people will benefit from this.

“Today over 10 families will actually get their HD TV and that is based on what we were talking about: a hybrid of delivery, set top boxes and a voucher where they can then go and purchase an HD TV that is already digitalised.”
