Cape Town City midfielder Thato Mokeke believes he made the right decision in re-joining the club earlier in 2019. Mokeke was part of City’s first ever season in the Absa Premiership when he was on loan from SuperSport United, but on his return to Gauteng, he struggled for game time and ended up moving to Chippa United in 2018.

The utility player then re-joined City in January and has been a key player for Benni McCarthy ever since, featuring in all 15 games since signing. Mokeke says City is a very different club now to the one he played for in their maiden season.

The 28-year-old says he has been pleased with his form since joining the team and says it helps having a coach like McCarthy believing in you.

Mokeke has been “Man of the Match” a handful of times already since rejoining City, but he says those personal accolades mean little, as long as the team wins. The former Ajax Cape Town player says it might sound like a cliché but he feels the City team really is like a family.

City will be back in action on 23 April when they host Highlands Park at the Cape Town Stadium.
