MKMVA wants burning of South African flag investigated

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) members want more to be done about the killing of farmers and farmworkers.

They marched on Friday to the Mariannhill toll plaza in Pinetown, west of Durban, to demand the KwaZulu-Natal premier’s intervention in farm attacks.

They’re also demanding that the burning of the current South African flag at some of the recent Black Monday protests against farm killings be investigated.

They also burnt the old South African flag. KwaZulu-Natal MKMVA chairperson, Themba Mavundla says this flag reminds South Africans of the suffering under apartheid.

“Burning the old apartheid flag for us is a symbol that it should not exist anymore because the United Nation declared apartheid a crime against humanity. It is equal to Nazism, it’s a crime against humanity. So we are burning it today (Friday) because it should be in the dust bins of history. South Africa is experiencing poverty because of that flag, so that flag should be banned and never be raised is South Africa.”
