Mkhwebane urges Zuma to expand terms of reference

Reading Time: 1 minute

Public Protector Advocate Busi Mkhwebane has urged President Jacob Zuma to allow Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to expand the terms of reference of the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.

Zuma announced on Tuesday that he had established the commission, following the recommendations of former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela.

Madonsela released the report into state capture in October 2016.

Welcoming the announcement of the inquiry, Mkhwebane called on Zondo, who will be leading the inquiry, to leave no stone unturned in the investigation.

“In order to ensure that there are not stones unturned in so far as the allegations of the state of capture are concerned and in order to avoid any further allegations of state of capture being lodged with the office of the Public Protector, the Public Protector calls upon the president of the Republic to ensure that the terms of reference for the commission of inquiry are not  limited to issues investigated or identified in the state of capture report. The Public Protector calls upon the president to ensure that Deputy Chief Justice has the power to expand the issues to be investigated,” says the Public Protector’s Spokesperson Cleopatra Mosana.
