Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the recovery of municipalities depends on the investment in skills development of public servants.
Mkhize met with Free State municipality mayors, provincial government officials and councilors in Bloemfontein.
His visit is part of his department’s efforts to assist dysfunctional municipalities in the province. Mkhize says there is a need for recovery for municipalities to accelerate service delivery.
“We are going to implement guidelines to help them to deal with bloated staffing levels so that they can manage their expenditure levels. We are going to deal with mechanisms for financial recovery which we believe all municipalities should deal with. Then of course there are a number of specific issues of service delivery, the issues of refuse collection, dirt in the municipalities, we are discussing those issues, potholes and maintenance budget for fixing potholes and we going to raise those issues.” Click below for more on the story:
