Mitchell’s Plain CPF calls on Hawks to investigate police officer

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Mitchell’s Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) has called on the Hawks to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a police constable for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The 29-year-old off duty police constable was arrested over  the weekend in Mitchell’s Plain.

CPF chairperson Abie Isaacs says the community welcomes the arrest, but they are concerned about the rise in police members allegedly involved in crime.

“We are concerned that police officers and police members have also become perpetrators of crimes. We are calling for the Hawks in particularly to investigate this particular matter and any other matter where illegal firearms have been confiscated by South African Police Services, based on the fourteen firearms that have allegedly gone missing in Mitchell’s Plain police station.”
