Millions expected to receive social grants through bank accounts

About two million social grants recipients will start to receive their grants through their banks from January 2018.

Beneficiaries will also be able to collect their payments at the Post Office and other places.

This comes in the light of the agreement by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the South African Post Office to administer social grants payments. In March this year, the constitutional court ordered Sassa and the Social Development department find an alternative service provider to Cash Paymaster Services (CPS).

Minister in the presidency Jeff Radebe announced the agreement on Sunday.

“For about two million beneficiaries who receive their grants through bank accounts, Sassa has received details of these bank accounts and has confirmed them and from the 1st January 2018, your grant will be paid directly into a bank account by Sassa,” says Radebe.
