Secretary to Parliament, Gengezi Mgidlana has been given seven days to make representations on why he should not be placed on precautionary suspension.

This is according to Parliament which says Mgidlana was placed on special leave while an audit committee was investigating allegations levelled against him.

In a statement released, Parliament’s Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says the audit committee has concluded its investigation and handed over the report to the Presiding Officers of Parliament, Thandi Modise and Baleka Mbete.

Mothapo says after applying their minds, Modise and Mbete took a decision that the allegations against Mgidlana were so serious that it warrants disciplinary proceeding against him. He has been given seven days to make representations why he should not be placed on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of the DC.

The allegations levelled against Mgidlana related to claims of corruption, maladministration and abuse of power. The two presiding officers have however emphasised that Mgidlana remains innocent until proven otherwise by a disciplinary process.
