A large crowd disputing the preliminary results has gathered at the Zimbabwe Elections Command Centre in Harare.

The group, which is made up of mostly Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) supporters, is showing its dissatisfaction with the current results.

The preliminary results are showing an overwhelming victory for ZANU-PF in the National Assembly results. This group of protesters says the current results which have been read out are not a true reflection of those who voted.

They have accused the government of rigging the results.

Meanwhile, the Head of Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) Electoral Observer Mission, Manuel Domingos Augusto, says Zimbabwe’s election was held in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Augusto was presenting SADC’s preliminary statement on the election in the capital, Harare.

“The pre-election phase and the voting proceeded in a peaceful and orderly manner, and were largely in line with the key provisions of the legal and constitutional framework and in conformity with the revised SADC principles and guidelines governing democratic elections. The peaceful environment provided the people the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right.”
